Former Creed members plus singer Myles Kennedy's 2nd attempt at breaking through saw an album full of heavy rock anthems very much in the vein of Creed but much heavier which I like! I love the superheavy riffing, melodic and powerful vocals and the good and modern production that reminds of many american metalbands of the time. On the minusside is that there are too many songs on the album, it feels like listening to the same song all over and over again after a while. Also some songs are too long and repetitive.

The album peaked at nr. 13 in the USA and 37 in the UK.

The 9th Judas Priest-album was recorded in Ibiza, Spain and was a continuation of the heavy, short metalsongs that was released on the former album Screaming For Vengeance from 1982 and reached one position higher (18) on the US charts than S.F.V The album reached 19 on the UK charts and nr. 2 on the Swedish charts, 12 in Switzerland and 17 in Norway.

This album has only good songs and even though they sometimes recorded more melodic songs during this period they kept on doing great songs.

1)Freewheel burning (9,0) A tremendous opener! Full force and twinguitarssoloing.

2)Jawbreaker (8,5) Continuing the bonecrushing pounding rhythms.

3)Rock hard ride free (8,0) Melodic and quite slow but it's good anyway.

4)The sentinel (8,0) Midtempo rocker.

5)Love bites (7,5) Chanting and heavy riffing with synthdrums.

6)Eat me alive (8,5) Another superheavy, fast and chaotic metaller.

7)Some heads are gonna roll (8,0) More melodic and good and powerful.

8)Night comes down (7,5) Slow, heavy and melodic.

9)Heavy duty (8,0) Singalong, heavy drum chantsong.

10)Defenders of the faith (-) Heavy Duty goes into this outtro.

One of my absolute favourite band of the 1980's with one of the best metalalbums of the century! This german's band's 4th album is a very heavy one, probably because former Accept-guitarist Herman Frank joined the band for the album. The songs are top notch with ultra-heavy guitarriffing and melodic and raw vocals by Mat Sinner. The former 3 albums were more raw and somewhat amateurish so this was the climb towards fame even though it never really took off for the band even though the were signed to Noise Records. The only thing I can complain about is that there aren't very much guitarsolos.

1)Born to rock (9,5)

2)Emerald (8,5)

3)Bad girl (8,5)

4)Shout! (9,0)

5)The storm broke loose (9,0)

6)Out of control (8,5)

7)Too late to runaway (9,0)

8)Hand of fate (8,5)

9)Masquearade (8,5)

10)Open arms (8,0)

Score: 8,70
