The band Santana's 7th album was a step towards more poppy, vocalbased and R & B and disco-sound. The songs are of poor quality and it gets very cheezy in many places. Luckily this was to be corrected in later albums. Santana shouldn't look for the toplists, they should stay to their roots!

David Brown played with Boz Scaggs in the early 70's and also performed with Santana on the Woodstock festival in 1969.

1)Dance sister dance (Baila mi hermana) (6,0) An good example of Santanas wordmusic inspired by american and african rhythms but there's too much keyboards and there could have been more variation and action in the song.

2)Take me with you (5,0) There's more rock in the first half but then it becomes elevator/70's pornfilmmusic, which occurs here and there on the album.

3)Let me (5,5) Typical uptempo 70's funky disco/rock with some nice guitarplaying.

4)Gitano (6,5) A nice Mexicanstyle calypso or what it's called. It's exiting music!

5)Tell me are you tired (5,0) Too much of the 70's funk-dancestyle. The funky guitarsound is terrible!

6)Europa (Earth's cry heavens smile) (5,5) Balances on the elevatormusicline but some nice guitarplaying saves it a little bit.

7)Let it shine (3,0) Not very good poppy song with terrible synthcomp.

This is the first album to include Paul Chapman on guitar who replaced the one and only Michael Schenker, Schenker who difined Ufo:s guitarplaying. Chapman does an okey job trying to copy Schenkers style but it is miles away from the riffingattack that Schenker stood for and became a signature for Ufo:s sound in the 70's. Here and there the album sounds like "old" Ufo but a new direction can clearly be heard in the more melodic and calmer songs.

Phil Mogg is the uncle of Nigel Mogg, bassist in Quireboys. He is the only member to play on all Ufo-albums.

Paul Chapman actually played and toured with Ufo 1974-1975 but did not play on albums at the time. He formed the band Lone Star and stayed in that band until 1978.

Paul Raymond played in Chicken Shack and Savoy Brown in the late 60's before joning Ufo in 1976.

1)Alpha centouri (-) Not a  very impressing intro.

2)Lettin' go (8,0) A heavy rocker in the new way Ufo would continue. Nice driving bassline and guitarsolo.

3)Mystery train (Junior Parker/Sam Phillips) (7,5) An okey uptempo rocker but it just stops in the middle of the song. Good acoustic intro. A coversong first released in 1953 by Little Junior's Blue Flames but made popular by Elvis in 1955.

4)This fire burns tonight (6,0) Halfboring midtempo that just passes by.

5)Gone in the night (6,5) Begins as an classic Ufo-song, nice and smooth, but then looses it.

6)Young blood (5,5) This is not very fun...

7)No place to run (6,0) Slow and simple song with a terrible refrain.

8)Take it or leave it (7,0) A nice ballad.

9)Money, money (6,0)

10)Anyday (7,5) Superb riff in old Ufo-style and also strong singing.

Rival Sons is an american band from Los Angeles which is inspired by classic rock and hardrock. Very obvious inspirations are Led Zeppelin and The Doors. I would define their music as 60' and 70's unpolished rock'n'roll that smells Led Zeppelin. This, their 2nd album, has a couple of killersongs but also some fillers and the album is very short, clocking in at only 30 minutes. The album reached 129 on the UK albumcharts and the band is in 2011 reaching a bigger and bigger audience. They opened for Judas Priest on their UK tour of 2011.

This is the first german-speaking record I have reviewed. Die Toten Hosen is from Düsseldorf and released their 1st album in 1983. They are considered a punkband and involve humor, politics and nonsense in their lyrics.

1)Entschuldigung, es tut uns leid! (6,0) Spoken intro that goes into a punky singalongrocker.

2)Lesbische, schwarze, behinderte (6,5) Punk.

3)Warum werde ich nicht satt? (7,0) Crazy song with jazzy happy upbeat mixed with a furious metalrefrain. Cool.

4)Wofür man lebt (7,5) A nice ballad with cello and good melody.

5)Helden und diebe (6,0) Midtempo rocker.

6)Sonntag im zoo (7,5) A fast punksong.

7)Schön sein (6,5) Midtempo singalong.

8)Container-lied (-)

9)Alles wie immer (5,0)

10)Unsterblich (6,0)

11)Intersex (-)

12)Call of the wild (7,0) In english.

13)Unser haus (6,5) Ballad with orchestra. Nice.

14)Regen (6,5)

15)König der blinden (6,0)

16)Bayern (5,0) Halfboring song about a soccerteam.

More info on the band; see also 48) Point Blank-Second Season 1977 and 36) Point Blank-Point Blank 1976, both filed under "Southern Rock".

This, the 4th album from Texans Point Blank somewhat kept to their 70's sound but with a slightly poppier sound. An okey album that I play sometimes.

1)Turning back (8,0) Superincredible mainriff and furious singing from mr. O'Daniel but way too short.

2)The hard way (7,0) Midtempo rocker.

3)On the run (6,5) The vocals sounds like it's recorded in a metalcan, otherwise it's a nice jazzy and funky song.

4)Highway star (8,5) Liveversion of the Deep Purple-song. It may seem strange to have it on a studioalbum but I understand why, it doesn't get much more rock'n'roll than this! It's a fantastic version of the old classic and the crowd is going nuts!

5)Rock'n'roll soldier (6,0) Happy happy times!

6)Guessing game (7,0) Tempochanging and twinguitarsoloing!

7)Wrong to cry (7,0) Live again and this is a slow blues.

8)Thank you mama (8,0) Live, uptempo bluesboogierocknroller!

A band from Australia that was formed in 1986 and this is their debut album. They supported Joe Satriani and Kiss on tours the same year this album was released. A single, Bottom of my heart, reached nr.20 on the Australian charts. The album is kind of amateurish but they had a style of their own, somewhere between hardrock/sleaze and rock'n'roll. I like the "rocking" guitar- and natural drumsound. With better songs this album would have been more listenable. Now I don't want to listen to it again. On their 2nd album two year later they would actually make a relly good album. (Glen Morris doesn't play on this album. It's Jeffrey Hoad that plays the guitarparts. Glen joined the band after the release of the album)

1)Serpentine (7,0) Good rocking start with a good refrain.

2)Get on up (6,5)

3)Black leather (6,0)

4)Tom boy (6,5)

5)Hot to trot (5,5)

6)Vicious delicious (5,0) "Sock it to me" x 100...

7)Jealous (6,5)

8)Bottom of my heart (5,5)

9)Cry 4 love (6,5)

10)Medicine man (7,0)

11)Bad love (5,5)

Rainbow's 2nd album and from the previous album Richie Blackmoore (ex.Deep Purple) only took the singer Ronnie James Dio with him. The coverart is fantastic and there are some nice photos of the band on the back and in the gatefold sleeve. The album has some good, classic hardrocksongs but I feel that it could have been better. It reached nr.6 in the UK.

Ronnie James Dio had played in Elf before he joined Rainbow. He died of cancer in 2010.

Cozy Powell had played in several band before Rainbow and recorded with The Jeff Beck Group and Bedlam in the beginning of the 70's. He died in a carcrash in England while driving intoxicated, overspeeding and speaking on the mobilephone.

Tony Carey was born in USA and has played with several artist after Rainbow. He also has released many soloalbums.

1)Tarot woman (8,5) After a long keyboardintro, a good midpace rocker with the distinctive singinh by Dio, nice guitarplaying and cool keyboardwork.

2)Run with the wolf (7,5) Slow but intense song. Good drumming and strong refrain but otherwise nothing special.

3)Starstruck (8,0) Melodic boogierocker with a good melody and refrain. The guitarsolos on the album aren't much to be happy at though.

4)Do you close your eyes (7,0) An okey song but with a boring refrain that goes on and on for tooo long.

5)Stargazer (7,0) A big-sounding hardrockclassic but I don't know... An okey song but it's too much of everything. The end of the song just goes on and on in pompous orchestralic keyboardplaying and singing. Features the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.

6)A light in the black (8,0) Again Powell shows his abilities on drums. A true hardrockdrummer! The song is an uptempo rocker with good keyboard- and guitarsolos.

This album containes Kim Wilde's typical synthpop of the 80's. She had some big hits worldwide through her carrier, the first one being "The kids in america" in 1981, but this album was a bit of a failure and only made it to nr.90 on the charts. It truly has no hit-potential and the songs are overall quite bad. She did better than this both before and after this album. Wilde is still active as a singer but also has an carrier as a landscape gardener.

Gary Burnacle has played with a huge amount of wellknown pop and rockstars during his carrier.

1)House of Salome (6,5)

2)Back street Joe (4,0)

3)Stay awhile (5,0)

4)Love blonde (5,5)
