See also album 51) Loverboy-Loverboy 1980 filed under 80's hardrock/heavy metal.

Loverboy's 2nd album had an equally bad looking cover as the 1st album. It containes the same type of party rock'n'roll-hardrock but they developed it a bit with slightly better songs. It had some hitsongs and peaked in USA at nr. 7 and sold 4 million copies! They opened for Journey on tour.

1)Working for the weekend (7,5) Uptempo, happy rocksong.

2)When it's over (7,5) Superb singing in this slow rocker.

3)Jump (6,5) Typical Loverboy happy-rocker.

4)Gangs in the street (6,5) A very heavy song.

5)Emotional (8,0) Rock'n'roll! Uptempo with nice guitarplaying and piano.

6)Lucky ones (8,0) Good song by a band on their way to big things. Or actually they were big, but the albums were getting better and better.

7)It's you life (7,0)

8)Watch out (7,0) Nice softer song.

9)Take me to the top (6,5) Synthriff, crazy guitarplaying and a nice break with guitarsolo.

This Canadian hardrockband was formed as early as 1976 and this is their 2nd album, the 1st one released in 1984. After the 1st album "Vices" they had toured with Quiet Riot, Judas Priest and Whitesnake but this album did not fare as well probalby since the sound had gotten softer and more of a progressive feel that was hard for the public to appreciate. Some of the songs are okey and somewhat interesting and the production is really good but there is really something missing. Guest vocalists are Lee Aaron and Rik Emmet from Triumph.

1)Welcome to the club (7,0) Not a rockin' start but they show what they are about; a little different hardrockband.

2)Feels good-don't stop (6,0) Watersplashes, babynoises, aeroplanes, nice groove in this marching-stomp. Yes, a different band...

3)Comin' after you (8,0) A really good song that builds up after a balladish intro. Good singing.

4)Make your move (6,5) Nothing special but a good guitarsolo.

5)Never let go (6,0) Even th ballad is diferent and a bit strange.

6)Hellraisers (7,5) A good rocker.

7)Can't take it with you (7,0) A little strange fistpumping stomper.

8)Too loud...too old (6,0)

9)Feel the power (6,5)

10)With a little help from my friends (Lennon/McCartney) (7,0)

This is the Canadian band Loverboy's debutalbum. It features rock'n'roll with a partyattitude that apparently was liked by many people since it sold 700 000 copies in Canada and 2 million in USA! They toured with ZZ Top, Cheap Trick, Kansas and Def Leppard. For a debutalbum at the time it's rather good. The songs rocks but there's also a lot of melody and hooks that stuck at first hearing. The sound of this record would define the whole carrier of Loverboy, one of my favorite bands that I grew up with in the 80's.

Mike Reno has released a soloalbum and Paul Dean has released three. Scott Smith died in 2000 after being knocked overboard by a wave while sailing.

6)Prissy prissy (6,0)

7)Teenage overdose (6,5)

J. Karjalainen is a very well-known artist in Finland and has been for many years. His music is rock with some rocking and a bit chaotic songs, and others that has a defenitive J.J Cale-feel to them, which means soft and mellow melodies and flowing guitars. I miss more variation in the songs and that the other players would come more to the front. Karjalainen also has a very special voice that you either like or don't like.

1)Humanoidien järvi (5,5)

2)Hullun laulu (6,5)

3)Keihäänkärki (7,5)

4)Tyttöni mun (5,0)

5)Do the kaivinkone (6,0)

See also album nr.45 Tommy Shaw-Girls With Guns 1984, filed under 80' hardrock/heavy metal

After Tommy Shaw's debutalbum the year before which were an okey melodic rockalbum, he released this crap. Many of the songs are so cheezy (popmelodic crap) that they are just unberable to listen to. Maybe Shaw was trying to reach the toplists and he was on his way since this record peaked at nr.87 on the Billboardlist.

Gary Myrick has had an solocarrier and also played with a lot of wellknown rockartists.

1)Jealosy (6,5) Superplastic drumsound a lá 1985. Saxophone and a powerful refrain and ending to the song.

2)Remo's theme (What if) (5,5) Oooh those cheesy dums... And also very cheesy song and a Toto-bridge but suddenly a superb female vocalbridge.

3)Reach for the bottle (7,0) A rather good complex song with saxophonesoloing.

4)Freindly advice (3,5) Here the okey songs end. Synthdrum- and synthintro with funny guitars to a very strange song. Did they try something new here?

5)This is not a test (4,5) ...

6)See me now (5,0) Too cheesy.

7)True confessions (2,0) My goodness...Why isn't Shaws great voice used like it could?

8)Count on you (1,0) Cheesy ballad, really really awful!

9)Nature of the beast (3,0)

10)Bad times (6,0)

Score: 4,40

Point Blank's second album was even better than the first. They managed to keep their boogie/bluesrockroots and developed it into a more heavier feetstomping mood in some songs and also keep their sense for good melodies. This is a superb album that I really recommend.

1)Part time lover (8,5) A cool heavy uptempoboogie with great acoustic guitarplaying.

2)Back in the alley (8,0) A heavy slowblues where O'Daniels sings his lounges out!

3)Rock and roll hideway (7,5) A rocknroller about rock'n'roll!

4)Stars and scars (7,5) A sweet acoustic ballad and electric guitarsoloing the last 3-4 minutes.

5)Beautiful loser (6,5)

6)Uncle Ned (9,0) Heavy riff! Furious singing and superb change of tempo leading to a blistering solo. Superb!

7)Tattooed lady (8,5) Slow ZZ Top-ish bluesboogie with a superb riff!

8)Nasty notions (8,0)

9)Waiting for a change (8,0) A beautiful ballad.

Foghat's 2nd album was also, as the 1st album simply called Foghat, but it became known as the album "Rock'n'Roll". It had better production than the 1st album and overall better songs even though I get the feeling, as is the problem with all Foghat albums, that they could have been so much better if only they had had better songs, better guitarplaying and more variation in the songs. Otherwise I like their style of boogie/hardrock/rock'n'roll.

Lonesome Dave, Tony Stevens and Roger Earl had been playing with Savoy Brown before the formed Foghat.

Lonesome Dave died in 2000 from cancer but he went on a last tour even though he was beeing treated for his illness.

Rod Price had before he joined Foghat released an album with Black Cat Bone in 1969. He also released 2 soloalbums in the 2000's. He died in 2005 at home from a heartattack.

1)Ride,ride,ride (6,5) Intense and okey rocksong.

2)Feels so bad (7,0) A slow boogie with some nice slideguitarplaying.

3)Long way to go (7,0) Includes keyboards but it fits the song.

4)It's too late (6,0)

5)What a shame (7,5) A heavy rocker remainding very much of Frankie Miller. Includes trumpets!

6)Helpin' hand (7,0) Midpace rocker with both acoustic and electric guitar.

7)Road fever (7,0) More horns in this uptempo rocker.

8)She's gone (6,5)

9)Couldn't make her stay (5,0)

Score: 6,61
